Natural mine fast cement Marfil is used in the restoration of heritage buildings in the United States..
Last September the restoration of the pavement of a public car park built in 1936 at the Jacob Riis Park in New York City was finished.
The large car park’s surface was used for the reconstruction of the entire area of the east coast of the state of New York affected by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. As a result of the work of bulldozers this surface was very affected, being necessary its recovery.
For the reconstruction of the pavement, 400 tons of ready mix concrete with natural mine cement Marfil and Portland cement were used.
Public parks in the United States are managed by the National Park Service (NPS). This department imposes the obligation to restore all the architectural elements with unique materials and binders as similar as possible to historic mortars used in the original construction.
Since 1818 a lot of buildings in North America were being built with cement from natural underground farms located in the valley of the Hudson River in NY Rosendale, the last factory of this kind of American natural cement was producing until 1970.
Nowadays and since 2004 only a small mining exploitation remanufactures natural cement ‘Rosendale’ in the United States and therefore, the use of our natural mine cement ‘Marfil’ in the American market is essential to continue the restoration of all the buildings of that time.
